Friday, August 20, 2004 A Dog's Prayer By Beth Norman Harris Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear. When it is cold and wet, please take me inside...for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements..and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth...though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land...for you are my God...and I am your beloved worshipper.Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger. And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest...and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands [Posted by: Davina at 10:20 am] Sunday, August 15, 2004 A tribute to the 50 000 animal who recently lost their lives in Greece, in the name of greed and vanity Written by 'Canadian Voice for Animals' DOVES FOR THE SLAUGHTERED STRAYS OF ATHENS OLYMPIA In ancient times, the sacrifice of a black ram signified the beginning of the Olympic games...this was Olympia in 776 BC The ruthless slaughter, poisoning, maiming, and torture of hundreds of thousands of stray dogs and cats throughout the whole of Greece, signified the beginning of the modern-day Olympic games...this is Athens in 2004 AD The spectacle of Olympia began in 1936 at the Summer Olympic games in Nazi Germany. It was the first time the Olympic torch was set afire by a German Olympian. Thus began the spectacle of Olympia. Greece, considered the cradle of civilization, the country that gave birth to great philosophers, now sends out the message: That darkness is more fundamental than light; embrace cruelty before kindness, the act of evil more primary than good...more deserving of existence. Ghandi wrote: Empathy and kindness are basic must-needs to all forms of life. We, at the Canadian Voice For Animals, and our representatives in the United Kingdom, Argentina, Romania and Turkey, call upon all humans to form a catalyst that will finally stop world-animal-abuse. The Olympic games will proceed regardless of how much we protest or threaten to boycott. The games will begin; medals will be won, and tears will be shed, and heavier tears will be shed for the countless number of strays that have been destroyed in the name of Olympia. For the Animals.
